We’ve been fasting for less/more than 2 weeks, closer to the Eid Mubarak or Eid al-Fitr, Moslem’s Eid that falls on the 1st of Shawwal AH on the calendar.
Absolutely, Moslems around the world can’t wait any longer to the Eid al-Fitr, ‘cause beside we’re finally reach into a holy day and back to sacred, there are some traditions on Eid that we miss the most in each year.
In Indonesia, as usual during the day of Eid, Moslems go to see their family in their hometown, Eid pray together, gather around, or maybe visit family’s grave. Then, having lunch and dinner together with one special menu, vegetable rice cake or in Bahasa is Ketupat Sayur.
Beside that, there’s one tradition that kids and teenager waiting for from their parents, grandparents, aunt, or their uncle in Eid, that’s Eid allowance. The people who can receive Eid allowance are they who still underage. So, approximately, that’s the Indonesian traditions on Eid. Now I’m curious, what about the Eid mubarak traditions in other country?
Eid Mubarak Around The World
In Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, the traditions are approximately same with Indonesian’s tradition. So does India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, but there’s one thing that make the traditions is little bit different.
The woman in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will paint their hands with henna and wear colorful dress on Eid mubarak, then the people in there after Eid pray or they called Eidgah, they usually lunch together with their family with special menu like sivayyan. The kids and teenager will get Eid allowance too from their family called Eidi.
Eid Mubarak in Middle East
In Arab Saudi, especially in Riyadh, Moslems will decorate their house when Eid-al Fitr come, the purpose is to make their house look beautiful and attractive on Eid.
Beside that, there are celebrations too like theater, poetry reading, parade, music show, and stuff. The special menu on Eid in Arab Saudi is lamb with rice and vegetables. The same traditions also happen in Sudan, Syria, and some other country in Middle East.
Eid Mubarak in China
In China, especially in Xinjiang, Eid’s celebration looks glorious. The men wear special suit and the women wear wraps and veil. After Eid pray, they lunch together with family and then they will visit and clean up their family’s grave or Islamic leader’s grave in town.
Visiting their ancestral graves and clean it up, then pray for them is tradition of Moslems in China. This pray tradition in order to appreciate and honor hundreds of thousands Moslems in China who died in Qing Dynasty and during culture revolution.
Eid Mubarak in United States
Eid’s celebration in Asia and Middle East is almost similar. But, the Eid’s celebration in Europe and United States is very different. In United States, Eid’s celebration is very silence maybe because Eid al-Fitr isn’t national holiday.
Sometimes, Moslems in United States doesn’t know about the date of Eid. Usually, the day of Eid is confirmed by Moslem community in town via telecommunication like phone or email, so Moslems in U. S. will know about the date of Eid and prepare for the Eid pray and gather around with Moslems fellow in United States.
Eid’s celebration in Europe is similar in U. S. because Moslem people are less, so Moslem in Europe has to looking for information in Islamic Center. The Eid’s celebration in Europe is very simple.
Sometimes, because Eid isn’t a national holiday, some Moslem in there still has to work on Eid, unless they are asking to leave on Eid.
