Old VS New Regulation for WLAN

October 26, 2015 | By archives | Filed in: Blogging.

We know that regulation for 2,4GHZ and 5GHz changed already, all of regulation related to 802.11 protocol such as :

Regulation No. 233/DIRJEN/2010 About tecnical requirements for broadband wireless access (BWA) band 5,8GHz, Regulation No. 268/DIRJEN/1998 about technical requirements for Radio Wireless Local Area Network (outdoor) and Regulation No.058/DIRJEN/1998 about technical requirement for Wireless Local Area Network (LAN) replaced by new regulation no 28/PERMEN/2015.

Old VS New Regulation of WLAN 2,4GHz and 5GHz

What is different between old regulation and new regulation of WLAN 2,4 and 5GHz?

We though the different is the maximum output power only, old regulation  accepted of max output power 200mW and new regulation said max output power should be 100mW.

Let us show you more detail on this, based on old regulation no. 058/DIRJEN/1998 and 233/DIRJEN/2010  WLAN allowable frequency like below :

Frequency range:

  • 2,4GHz => 2400MHz – 2483,5MHZ (Lower limit – upper limit), channel 1 to max channel 13
  • 5GHz => 5725MHz – 5825MHz (lower limit – upper limit), channel 149 to max channel 161
  • Maximum bandwidth 20 MHz
  • 27dBm for indoor and 36dBm for outdoor

Max output power 200mW

And new regulation No. 28/PERMEN/2015 released by Sept, 11st 2015 as below:

#Frequency range :

  • 2,4GHz => 2400MHz – 2483,5MHZ (Lower limit – upper limit), channel 1 to max channel   13
  • 5GHz => 5725MHz – 5825MHz (lower limit – upper limit), channel 149 to max channel 161
  • Max bandwidth  20MHz for 2,4 and 5GHz
  • Max output power 100mW / 20dBm

see the official technical requirement below:

We think our short explanation about the different of old and the new regulation is clear enough, if you still doubt please discuss on forum. 🙂
